According to the Visitation of Suffolk of 1664 ®1463 he was a Gentleman and the second son. He was living in 1691. ®2665 “Register of Independent Chapel of Bury. 1684 Dec. 17. Thomas Moody, single man, son of Major Moody, late of Ipswich, & related to the Moodye family of this town, was received into the communion of this Church of Christ. He died 14 May 1716 at London, & left the chapel £220.” ®2689

John’s son Thomas writes ““and in his booke this character of my father Major John Moody written as followeth by Mr. John Gibbons (a member of the Heralds office) one formerly of my father’s family. “I was greatly beholdinge to the great grandson of this Edm. Moody who was an excellent soldier and scholar, he was versed exceedingly in the Mathematicks, and in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew, and spake Dutch very well, and it was by his means I went into Holland in the year 1647, which begat in me a strange desire of seeing foreign countrys. He was borne in St. Edmunds Bury, where the said Edm. Moody [lived] after he left the court.” ®1486

“The occasion of the drawing of the Coat of Armes on the other side was my goings on ye beginninge of May 1697 to have my wife’s Coat of Armes drawen, when I accidentally found one of my name Tho. Moody behinde the Royal Exchange in London: and in his shop I saw the Moodys Armes, and in his booke this caracter of my father Major John Moody written as followeth by Mr. John Gibbons (a member of the Heralds office) one formerly of my father’s family.

“In 1824 when at Bury St. Edmunds, The Rev. Mr. Dewhouse (Dewhirst) Mr: minister of the Independent Congregation there, showed me an old & curious Register belonging to the Chapel, from which I extracted 1683. Dec.17. Thomas Moody, single man, son of Major Moody, late of Ipswich & related to the Moody of this town, was received into the communion of this Church of Christ.”
“1716 Mr. Thomas Moody (received in 1683. p.16) dyed 14 May at London, in ye morning, tho he had walked many years in communion with ye Church of Christ at Ipswich, where his habitation was yet he never was dismissed from this church, but dyed a member with us & having ability in ye world, testified his love to ye way, & to ye church by having in his will, the sum of twenty pounds as a gift to T.B. of one hundred pounds to be distributed to ye poor as ye Pastor should see fit ____ of one hundred pounds should be put to interest & continue as a fund for the benefit of ye church. Thanks be to God, who put this thing into his heart. This money I received of Mr. Moody ye Executor 27 August & do owe the £200 to belong to the poor & to the church will (God willing) shall be so employed.
