Gretchen was a retired teacher/ media person for School District #833. They lived at 1464 Cedarwood Drive, Woodbury, Minnesota 55125 on 28 May 1987. Gretchen Mary Novak of Woodbury died from complications of cancer at the age of 74 on March 4, 2018 at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. Preceded in death by parents Ben and Bertha Patka. Survived by husband Charles Novak, sons Chris and Paul , brothers Jim Patka and Tom Patka, and nine grandchildren. Gretchen loved reading, playing golf, beading, Mahjong, live theatre, her friends, and watching her sons and grandchildren play. She was a great wife, mother, friend, communicator, organizer, and leader who was intelligent, outgoing, helpful, and inspirational. A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on March 24th at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Oakdale, Minnesota. Visitation is at 9 AM and a reception will follow the funeral.
There will be an informal ‘celebration of life’ for her in Sun City West with an open house format from 3-5 PM this Friday, Mar 9th in the Powell Room at the Sun City West Foundation Building.
There will be an obituary on the Sun City West Camino del Sol Funeral Parlor website. Her funeral and columbarium burial will be held in Minnesota on Saturday, March 24th at Guardian Angels Parish, 8260 4th St, in Oakdale, Minnesota 55128. Visitation at 9 AM and funeral mass at 10 AM. Reception will follow.
