Notes for Lemuel MOODY
He served as an enlisted soldier in the Sixth French and Indian War of 1755-62.58 In April and May 1758 he was paid for 45 days service as a member of Col. Israel Williams’ regiment, Elisha Pomeroy’s company organized for an invasion of Canada.759 After their marriage in 1767 they settled in Amherst.58 607Lemuel was also in the Revolutionary War on the Amherst list. He served as Sergeant in Lieutenant Noah Dickinson’s company from Amherst which marched to Cambridge at the time of the Lexington alarm of 19 April 1775. 759He also was in Shay’s Rebellion of 1786-7.759,418 He worked with his father in dressing skins for leather clothing. 418 Lemuel was one of the incorporators of the Second parish. 758In the Amherst Valuation List of 1776 he had 1 Poll, 1 Horse, 0 Oxen, 2 Cows, 0 Hogs, 3 Sheep, 5:9 Personal Estate, 8 Houses and Lands, 15:4 Real Estate, 21:13 Total.759 “His house was located about one half mile north of the Bay Road in Amherst and on the west side of the road, which passes over Mt. Holyoke, to the center village in Amherst. The dwelling is still occupied, but his descendants have removed. He made his Will, Mar 23, 1809 and it was proved, Apr 14, 1818” 607 In 1790 Lemuel lived in Amherst with three males 16 and over. 368 He was on the 1802 Voters List in Amherst. 758 759 On the 1810 US Census his family of 1 male 26-44 and Lemuel and his wife both over 45 lived in Amherst. He left no probate record. 2385
