In 1813 he removed to Ludlow, Mass. where he resided till 1819 when he settled permanently at South Hadley Falls, at which place, he had for many years the care of the locks of the canal, on which account, he was sometimes called ‘Captain’. His dwelling house yet remains, being a short distance north of the village and near the bank of the Connecticut River. He was a carpenter and joiner by trade. among other expensive works, he was superintendent in building the dam across the Schuylkill, about 15 miles from Philadelphia, Pa. and was also engaged awhile on the Fairmount Water Works of that city.
