Notes for Lewis Addison ARMISTEAD
He was appointed to West Point in 1834, but left and was graduated from a North Carolina Military School. On 18 Jul 1839 he entered the U. S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and resigned as a Major on 26 May 1861 to join the Confederate Army. He died a Confederate hero as a General, leading Pickett's charge at the Battle of Gettysburg. 95
