She was the owner of the Owen Beauty Shop when she married. 417They had only two daughters. Her date of death was 30 June 1981.69 They lived in Detroit, Michigan, most of their married life and moved to Los Angeles to retire.69
Miss Emelia Matkovich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Matkovich of Willard, became the bride of Samuel A. Bertrand, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Bertrand of Chippewa Falls, Sunday, August 6, at Holy Family Catholic church in Willard.
Mrs. Anton Gnader, sister of the bride, was the bride's only attendant. John Matkovich, brother of the bride, was best man.
After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents.
After a week's wedding trip the couple will make their home at Owen where he is employed as clerk for the Northern States Power Company. The bride is the owner of the Owen Beauty Shop.
Miss Matkovich is well known in Neillsville. She was formerly employed at Mi-Lady's Beauty Shoppe and later at the Curl Shop.

“A wedding involving two prominent Owen people was solemnized Sunday, Aug. 18, 1939, at the Holy Family Catholic Church at Willard when Miss Emelia Matkovich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Matkovich of Willard, exchanged vows with Samuel A. Bertram, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Bertram of Chippewa Falls. Following the ceremony a dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents for the immediate friends and relatives of the family, after which the newlyweds left on a week's trip before returning home. The bride is a graduate of the Greenwood High School and a school of beauty culture. Before coming to Owen a year ago this summer she was employed as an operator at Neillsville. A year ago this summer she purchased the beauty shop located in the Woodland Hotel, which she has successfully operated the past year. She has made a host of friends in the community. The groom has been employed as bookkeeper in the local office of the Northern States Power Co. for a number of years and during his stay in the city has become well known and popular with everyone.”
