Notes for William HOLTON
He sailed from Ipswich in the ship “Francis” in 1634. He was an original proprietor of Hartford, then removed to Northampton, where he was ordained deacon in 1633. He was a representative to the General Court five years from Northampton and one from Hadley. He was on the committee for Northampton at the Second Settlement.146 They had 3 sons and 5 daughters. Hartford was a Dutch trading post in 1633. It was settled as Newtown in 1635 and renamed Hartford in 1637. The family moved from Hartford, Connecticut to the wilds of Northampton, Massachusetts in 1654 or 1655. 262 He was a surveyor called upon to lay out new plantations. He surveyed Hadley, Massachusetts. He represented Northampton at the General Court in Boston from 1664 to 1667. 262 His wife was Mary, and his father Edward Holton. 761
