Notes for William "The Immigrant" MOODY
Another immigrant ancestor of the Moody family in New England was William Moody, who came to this country from Wales in 1633. He married Sarah, surname unknown, and had three sons, Samuel, Joshua, and Caleb. He sailed from Southampton on 24 Mar 1634 to New England on the Ship "Mary and John”, per Robert Sayres, Master. Most of the passengers were from Hampshire and Wiltshire and for the most part settled in the Essex County towns of Ipswich, Newbury and Salem. He landed on 10 April 1634 at "Agawam” , Massachusetts. The Ipswich Public Library Archives show William Moody to be on the town records in 1634. He then moved to and was one of the first settlers of Newbury, Massachusetts in 1635. He was made a Freeman of Newbury on 6 May 1635. 185 603 He was a saddler by trade.603 His name is on the Settlers Monument in Newbury. He was probably a proprietor of Salisbury in 1650. 603 His will is dated 1673 in Newbury, Massachusetts. He emigrated to New England in 1634.418
“WILLIAM, Newbury, came in 1634, a saddler, from Ipswich, Co. Suffolk, and first sat down at Ipswich, freem. 6 May 1635; had w. Sarah, and ch. Joshua, wh. it had been agreed, was b. in Eng. Caleb, and Samuel, bef. ment. was prob. a propr. of Salisbury 1650, [[vol. 3, p. 227]] and d. Oct. 1673. Twenty-eight of this name had, in 1834, been gr. at the New England coll. one half at Harv. alone.“ 603
Note: as of May 2014 I can find no evidence that William who emigrated to Newbury, Massachusetts had a grandfather named Robert. I would appreciate anyone with such primary evidence to contact me at deltalimemike@gmail.com.

Is she his second wife. The first two children were born in England and he apparently married Sarah in America? Was her maiden name McDudah?
