Notes for Mathew BECKWITH
He was the first of his family to emigrate to New England, first appearing in Hartford, Connecticut in 1645 when he bought a homestead. A few years later he was at New London and Lyme, his land lying in the two towns, and provided well for all his sons. He was killed by a fall in the darkness of night over a ledge of rocks. 291 He was Elizabeth's first husband.
