In 1866 he became a professor of pathology associated with Dr. Paul Eve at the Medical College in Nashville. 149 A fire destroyed his home/office in 1867-8. 149 In 1868 was elected Professor of Chemistry and Clinical Medicine at the University of Louisiana , a post he held until his retirement in 1894.
