On 7 September 1850 he was a 17 year old clerk living at the home of John Bones and Mary Brown Bones in Augusta, Georgia.
278 On the 1860 Census he lived in Floyd County, Rome District, Georgia and he is listed as a carriage trader with a real estate value of $17,000 and a personal property value of $16,000. He was struck in the left leg by two minnie balls in the First Battle of Manassas, Virginia and he died on 20 August 1861. He was enlisted in Company E, 8th Infantry Regiment of Georgia from 14 May 1861 to 20 Aug 1861. He attained the rank of 1st Sergeant. His brother, John Carmichael Eve, also enlisted on 14 May 1861 and served with him as a Private in E Company of the 8th Infantry Regiment of Georgia of the Confederate Army until 2 Oct 1861.
"Oswell Eve was twice wounded at the first battle of Manassas in 1861, lingered in great suffering a month, then died leaving four sons, Ben Hall, John Pritchard, Robert Campbell and Oswell who died young."
