He had formerly lived in Maryville, Missouri, was in the US Navy, and had just returned from combat duty in the south Pacific at the time of their marriage. His uncle, Reverend Harry Hepburn, performed his wedding to Inez Anderson. After the wedding they went to live in Atlantic City, New Jersey. In 1948 he was stationed in Rhode Island. From 1949 to 1951 he was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas. When he finished his tour of duty with the United States Navy in October, 1951, they settled in Osawatomie, Kansas.
