On 1 April 1930 Leonard was 3 years and 3 months of age and lived with Eli La Pointe, 39, and his wife Julia, 30, and his half brother Bernard Beauregard on 4th Street in Bayfield, Wisconsin. 704 He served in the Navy in World War II. He was in the Navy for one year and six months from 1945 to 1946. 69 In 1975 he lived at Box 563, North 3rd Street, Bayfield, Wisconsin. In 2003 he was in a senior home in Red Cliff. He then lived at Northern Lights Care Center in Washburn, Wisconsin.


Leonard E. “Shinobee” LaPointe Sr, age 86, formerly of Red Cliff, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, April 12, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center in Ashland. He was born January 23, 1927 in Bayfield, the son of Eli G. and Julia LaPointe.
Leonard graduated from Central High School in Duluth, MN in 1949. He served in U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed in Auckland, New Zealand. He reenlisted into the U.S. Army where he served for a few years. Leonard married Marcella “Mousie” M. Basina on November 12, 1948. He worked and sailed the Great Lakes for 36 years for US Steel.
Leonard was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church of Bayfield and St. Francis Catholic Church of Red Cliff. He was active in Boy Scouts early in his life. He enjoyed playing bingo and nickel poker. He loved crafting Ore boats out of Balsa wood and making crafts out of aluminum beer cans.
He is survived by his children, Phyllis LaPointe-Johnson of Billings, MT, Lewis of Milwaukee, Leslie of Red Cliff, Lindsey “Sunny” of Minneapolis, MN and Priscilla LaPointe-Williamson of Red Cliff; grandchildren, Lisa Weber, Loren LaPointe, Leah Cadotte, Lenny, Thomas, Larry LaPointe Jr., Shawna Villard, Angelyne, Josephine, Leland, Marcella, Raymond DeFoe Jr., Camille Boyd, Carrie LaPointe, Holly LaPointe, Tina LaPointe, Lance LaPointe, Paige LaPointe and Landon LaPointe; great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Natalie, Madeline, Philip, James, Marde LaPointe, Minosay, Makoons Cadotte, Chloe Gordon, Lyle, Lindy, Lennox, Leala Birkholz-LaPointe, Delisa, Darian, Breezy LaPointe, Dezmond, Lukas, Lovey Jo LaPointe, Dillion, Dru LaPointe, Leland Jr., LeAngelo, Leahana, Larry LaPointe, Forest, Trinidy, Zari Gordon, Andrew DeFoe, Trenton, Marcus, Christian Boyd, Charles, Lillianna Robbinette-LaPointe, Dakota, Raine LaPointe, Ruby and Asher LaPointe; daughters-in-law, Linda DeFoe-LaPointe-Gordon, Sharon M. LaPointe and Catherine LaPointe; sons-in-law, Ray DeFoe Sr. and Thomas A. Gordon; special cousin, Sister Grace Ann Rabideaux; sister-in-law, Sue Beauregard; nephew, Thomas Beauregard; and niece Lani Beauregard-Leino.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marcella; sons, Leonard “Lenny” LaPointe Jr. and Larry “Piggy” LaPointe Sr.; brother, Bernard “Cotchie” Beauregard; and nephew, Bernard “Bernie” Beauregard Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 18, 2013 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Red Cliff with Fr. Kevin Gordon officiating. VFW Post #8239 military services will follow the Mass just outside of the church.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 17th at the Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn with a 7:00 PM prayer service.1842
