When he was young, before 1768, he sailed out of Philadelphia with his father and brother, Oswell. His aunt, Mary Moore, lived with his father Oswell, and his family until Oswell moved to Cat Island, the Bahamas at the outset of the Revolutionary War. John did not leave Philadelphia during the Revolution. Mary then lived with John and his family in Oxford, Frankford Township, Philadelphia until she died in Feb 1789. He inherited one third of her clothes and the rest of her household goods. He was her executor.
305 In 1790 he was in Pennsylvania at Northern Liberties. Index no. PAS1a1035642. The Philadelphia City Directory for 1793 mentions a John Eves, Sea captain, 60 Vine Street.
