William Ambrose Wright was born at Louisville, Georgia, on 18 January 1844. He was a Confederate officer in the war, lost a leg in battle and then served as an aide to his father, and after the war was Comptroller-General of Georgia for 50 years. He died at Atlanta, Georgia on 13 September 1929, and was buried at Oakland Cemetery. He was a soldier in the Army of the Confederate States of America, Statesman and a devoted Christian. Comptroller General & Insurance Commissioner, 1879-1929; Lawyer; Lieutenant, Confederate States of America.
He was honored for 50 years of service to the State as Comptroller General .
“ After crossing we marched through the old battle-field of Sharpsburg, and crossed Anteatum creek on the stone bridge, and rested until morning. Then we marched slowly all day, feeling for the enemy. Genl. Wright's son, Wm. A. Wright was captured by the enemy, but the General succeeded in getting him released by some means, I do not know how. He, Wright's son, had not more than gotten well of his wound that he got at 2nd Manassas, when he lost his leg.”
