He was from Milledgeville, Georgia. He enlisted in April 1864 in Macon, Georgia in Company D of the 5th Georgia Reserves and was a Fifth Sergeant when discharged in Greensboro, North Carolina on 26 April 1865. In 1908 he had a house and lot in Milledgeville and one thousand acres of land in Baldwin County, all of which he sold to pay his debts. On 27 July 1915 he had no property when he applied for a Confederate Pension in Milledgeville.
1569 On 15 April 1910 Chancey [sic], age 63, was retired and lived in a home he owned without a mortgage in Milledgeville, Georgia. He lived with his wife of 4 years, Lula, age 38, and she had borne one child, Edmund, 23, who lived with them. Lula’s sister, Ola Southerland, age 44 and born in Georgia lived with them.
