Notes for Louisa Elizabeth LAMAR
"Three noble sons are in the Army...four children at home" when she died. From the commentary* in the obituary it is evident that she died in the South during the Civil War. She died on the 26th of the month, at 57 years of age. The previous page in the scrapbook has "1862" on it, another article on this page has "1864."
*"The old family servants gathered around her dying bed and wept as though their hearts would break. What a comment upon our peculiar institution, and what a stunning rebuke to our cruel persecutors, who are seeking our destruction!" [signed "Pastor"]
