Notes for David C. (Spouse 1)
He was the son of Samuel.58 “Having received by Will, the Homestead of his father, he settled in Hadley, Mass. He was there in 1745, at which time he sold 37 acres of mountain land to his brother Jonathan Moody; in which consequence, he calls himself yeoman. He was of Hadley as late as 1751-4. Dr. Richard Crouch, physician in Hadley at this time as appears from his account book - now with Sylvester Judd, Esq. of Northampton, Mass. - visited a child of David Moody of Hadley, in 1739-44. The child then being sick. From the charges then made, we gather that the child’s name was David, and there is some intimation that the title Doctor is used as a prefix to the name of the father. But as he calls himself yeoman in the above deed, we a rather inclined to believe that the prefix Dr. is used to denote Debtor, than otherwise. I find no further account of this family. Nor have I been able from a wide correspondence to find any of the name whose progenitor could have descended in this line yet possible, he may have descendants somewhere. One thing is certain, no family is ascribed to him on the Hadley town records during the fifteen years, he was a resident there after marriage, nor is his decease or that of his wife at all noted. 607In 1790 a David Moody family of one man over 16, one boy under 16, and five females lived in South Hadley, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. 368 He and his mother Sarah were named Executors of his father’s will of 30 October 1744. 607They moved to Sandisfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts.459
