John emigrated from Germany to New York in April, 1860. On the 1 June 1860 census of Cincinnati, Ohio Jno. Armbruster was 16, single and lived with the family of William Greesen, 32, Elizabeth Greesen, 27, Mary Greesen, 7, Caroline Greesen, 6, William Greesen, 2, Charles Greesen, 6 months, Anna Blum, 23, Ida Klaussen, 17, Adam Glaub, 27 and Lewis Armbruster, 36, and Emanuel Luick, 31. Luick, a butcher, and the two Armbrusters were born in Württemberg, Glaub in Bavaria, Blum and Klaussen were domestics born in Baden, and Mr. Geesen was a butcher born in Hanover. The children had all been born in Ohio, and mother Elizabeth in Oldenburg. ®6360 On 10 June 1862 John Armbruster enlisted in Company H, Ohio 84th Infantry Regiment. He mustered out on 20 September 1862 at Camp Deleware, Ohio. He was born about 1840. ®6361 In June 1863, in the County of Richland, Ohio, John G. Armbruster, a single 23 year old shoemaker, born in Germany, registered for the Civil War draft. He claimed three months prior service. ®6362 Emmanuel Luick’s uncle, John Armbruster lived on Madeline Island and was the light house keeper on Outer Island. In 1890 John Armbruster lived in Ashland, Ashland County, Wisconsin. ®6363Ancestry.com has a private photo taken in LaPointe, Wisconsin in 1890 of John Armbruster, Nelson Cadrant and Thomas Stahl. On 29 March 1893 he filed his declaration of citizenship and received his Certificate of Naturalization dated 17 October 1900. He was Postmaster of La Pointe, Wisconsin from 3 July 1890 to 13 May 1892. ®2560 I cannot locate John Armbruster on the 1900 US Census. On the 1 June 1905 Wisconsin Census John Armbruster, 61, lived in Iron River, Wisconsin, with Lida, 43, George, 21, Mable, 19, Lillian, 17, Elmer, 15, Percia, 10, and Dewey, 7. ®6364 On 18 April 1916 Matilda Devine applied from Wisconsin for an invalid’s pension as the wife of John Armbruster who served in Company A, 106 Ohio Infantry. Application 1.423528 and certificate 1177772. On 30 September 1932 she filed for a widow’s pension, from Wisconsin, as the widow of John Armbruster. ®6365 John Armbruster was Matilda’s second husband. ®2560
