He graduated from Iron River High School in 1961, then spent several years in the U. S. Army in Germany. He then worked for the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation until he retired. He also had two additional living sisters at the time of his death; Mary (John) LaGeese and Louise Berkovich. He also had a stepson, Ron Frostman, deceased, and a stepdaughter, Charryl (Rick) Bowling of Loxley, Alabama survived him.
®2562Robert William "Bob" Armbruster, 66, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully, at his home, near Iron River surrounded by his loved ones, on July 1, 2009. Bob was born Nov 5, 1942, to George Rex and Bertha Armbruster in Ashland.
After graduating from Iron River High School in 1961, Bob enlisted in the US Army, serving in Germany. After his years of service, Bob returned to Iron River and worked for the State of Wisconsin in the Dept of Transportation until his retirement.
Bob loved the Northwoods. As a young lad, he worked along side his father, who had a successful bait business, selling bait to area resorts as well his own retail bait business. Following along with his father, it bode well for Bob, who later in life knew where every hole, creek or pot hole was located. There was not much of Bayfield County that he did not know. He loved to fish, especially for brook trout and nary a deer season went by when he wasn't hunting or trapping.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Kevin; stepson, Ron Frostman; sisters Darlene Lundeen, Ahleen Connors, Audrey Granlund and Delphine LaCrosse; three brothers, Tom, George Rex, Jr and Alva "Bud" Armbruster.
Survivors include his wife, Janelle; son, Kent (Lisa) of Iron River; daughter, Julie, of Germantown, TN; stepdaughter, Charryl (Rick) Bowling, of Loxley, AL; grandsons, Kevin and Cole; granddaughters, Amy and Autumn; great-grandson, Landen; four sisters, Karen Wicklund, Mary (John) LeGesse, Louise Berkovich and Rose Vranes; and his beloved dog, Lucy.
Internment in the Iron River Cemetery with Military Honors.
