Notes for John Basil LAMAR
The will of his father, Zachariah Lamar dated 23 Jan 1832, left a plantation to John B., in trust until age twenty five, or after age 25 if he has not “clearly shown...a total and permanent abandonment of ...the destructive vice of gaming.” The trustees, Lucius Q. C. Lamar of Baldwin County and Jesse Robertson of Jefferson County were to supervise the plantation which consisted of 5162 acres in Bibb and Twiggs Counties. There were also additional lands in Wilkinson and Laurens Counties and in Milledgeville. If John B. were to die without children, the property was to be dividied equally between his children, Mary Ann Lamar and Andrew Jackson Lamar.
