“He settled in ‘Moody Corner’ in South Hadley, on the homestead of his father. He was a large land holder, had also the care of a saw mill, owning them in joint stock with his cousins, Seth and Daniel. He served in the Militia, being appointed Ensign in 1799, Captain in 1803, Major in 1805, Lieutenant Colonel of the First Brigade, Fourth division 12 Sep 1810. This last office, he resigned 3 Feb 1814. He was distinguished as a military officer, being of erect form and hardy constitution, his voice clear and loud, was easily heard above the din of conflict. As a citizen, he was highly respected and his influence in the town and vicinity was prominent. He and his wife became members of the church in South Hadley in Mar 1820.” ®408He lived in South Hadley at the time of their marriage in 1789. ®687 In 1810 he and his wife were over 45 years old and lived in South Hadley with a son and two daughters, all 10-15 years old, 3 sons all 16 to 25 years old and a daughter 26-44 years old. ®810 On 1 June 1850 he is an 83 year old widowed farmer with real estate valued at $6000 in South Hadley. Living with him are his daughter Emiline’s husband Edmund Smith, 39, and children Rosanna, 9, Mary, 7, and Ella, 3, all born in Massachusetts. ®6757 He died in 1853 at 86 years of age. ®706
