“DUFFY BOUTIN, saloon, Bayfield, was born in Detroit, Mich., Dec. 15, 1845. He moved from place to place engaged in fishing - Mackinaw, Whiskey Island, St. Helena Isle and Two Rivers, where he remained until 1850; then to Kewaunee and on to Bayfield, where there are now living several brothers, Benoni, Edward, Felis F., Nelson, Frank, Joseph C., Duffy and Solomon D. On 1 January 1863 Duffy Boutin enlisted at Kewaunee as a Private in Company A of the 27th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, and mustered out as a Private on 24 Aug 1865 at Brownsville, Texas. ®7494 In 1868 he married Miss Lawrence. They have three children - Walter, aged thirteen; Nettie, eleven; and Lafayette, three. He has been Deputy Sheriff. His brother Joseph is also married and has a family of seven children living. He has also three sisters, Emily, Clara and Adeline.” ®5728 On 1 June 1880 Duffy Boutin is a 25 year old fisherman who lived in Bayfield, Wisconsin with his wife Olive, 23, and children Walter, 11, Nettie, 10, Lafayette, 2 and Bynan E., 2 months. ®7374 In 1895 Mrs. Duffy Boutin had 2 males and 2 females in her household in Bayfield. ®7495In 1900 Duffey Boutin is a 56 year old boarder with the McGillis family on Washington Avenue in Bayfield. He was born in Michigan in December 1843, had been married for 34 years and was not living with his wife. He was a saloon keeper whose parents had been born in French Canada. ®7496 On 1 June 1905 Duffy Boutin, 58, and a Joseph Boutin, 50, (not his brother who should have been 67) were both divorced and both boarded with the James Bailey family in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Duffy had been born in Michigan and his parents in Canada. ®7497His saloon was at the corner across from the Bell building (Bayfield Pharmacy). ®7375 In 1910 Duffy Boutin is a widowed 64 year old fisherman living in Ranier, Koochiching County, Minnesota. He was born in Michigan and his parents were born in Ireland. On 19 July 1911 Duffy Boutin, 65, was admitted to the Northwestern Branch of the U.S. National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Wood, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was discharged on 22 October 1913 to the care of his son, Walter Boutin of Bayfield, Wisconsin. He was a fisherman, a widower, and 5 feet and 5 inches, with gray eyes and gray hair. ®7494 He died 6 June 1938. ®73
