Misc. Notes
“They settled in Harwinton, Connecticut. His descendants affirm that his death was tragical. Being in the Meeting House in West Hartford on training day, whither many of the soldiers had retired to escape a shower, which had suddenly arisen, a musket in the hands of a young man whose name was Fisher accidentally discharged and the ball took affect. The gun, it appears had been loaded for more than two years, which fact was not disclosed till the accident....By distribution of his father’s estate ‘a double portion’ was given to him, the eldest son. He accordingly, settled on land which his father owned in Harwinton, Conn. The house he built and occupied in common with his brother Thomas; yet stands, being about one mile east of the Hawinton [sic] meeting house and on the north side of the road, leading from the center of Harwinton to what was then called West Britain, now Burlington, Conn. His descendants having removed from Harwinton as well as most of the descendants of his brother Thomas. The house is occupied by a family of a different name. Mr. Moody was farmer. I have found no record marking the exact time of his decease. It appears, however, by a deed recorded in Hartford, Conn. that he died sometime previous to 1810 and probably not far from this date. In the deficiency of records, I am unable to note the time of the decease of his wife.”
®408 He served in the Revolutionary War on the Springfield, Massachusetts list.
