Moody was a 30 year old married farmer born in Massachusetts. 2524 He was from Townsend, Massachusetts, born about 1832 when he enlisted as a private in Company B, Massachusetts 6th Infantry Regiment on 19 July 1863. 2524 He was mustered out on 27 October 1864 at Readville, Massachusetts. 773 He lived in Wilbraham on the 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910 US census. His father was Cotton Moody and mother was Lucy Tinker. 2526

Chapin wonders if this man is related to Sgt. Ebenezer and Lois Smith as “There probably was a second Cotton born tho’ not added here for the government listed a son, James C. who was a soldier in the Civil War from Townsend, Mass. He was born in 1832.”418
