Leon was born on 31 May 1900 in Bayfield, Wisconsin. ®10986 On 1 June 1900 he was just born and unnamed. ®8506 On 8 Sep 1906 in Waukon, Allamakee County, Iowa, his mother Addie Ames McCarty married her second husband Joseph I. Boutin. ®10698 On 15 April 1910 Leon McCarty lived as an only child with his mother Addie A., 43, and stepfather Joseph Boutin in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Joseph Boutin was a 57 year old grocery merchant and they lived in a house he owned next door to his brother Frank G. Boutin. ®7379 Leon graduated from Bayfield High School in 1918. ®4872 On 1 January 1920 Leon H. McCarty, 19, lived in a house on First Street in Bayfield, Wisconsin with his mother Addie M., 52, and stepfather Joseph Boutin, 65, now retired. ®7513 On 1 April 1930 he had been married to Doris, 30, for 10 years and they with their 9 year old son rented a portion of his mother’s house on Third Street for $1200 a month. Leon was a druggist in a drug store. ®10700 On 1 April 1940 Leon McCarty, a 39 year old road machinery salesman lived in a house he rented in Bayfield for $30 a month at 239 (street unnamed) with Doris, 40, and son William, 19. They had lived in the same house in 1935. Leon had attended college for 2 years and had been born in Wisconsin. ®10846 The 1943 La Crosse, Wisconsin City Directory lists Leon H. McCarty and Doris M. McCarty as living at 217 South Seventh Street, La Crosse, Wisconsin. ®10987

“Leon H. McCarty
Bayfield businessman, 74, and community leader, died Tuesday,August 13, in the Ashland Hospital. Except for a year and a half in Duluth and two years in Milwaukee he was a lifetime Bayfield resident. At one time he was the youngest member of the Bayfield County Board of Supervisors. In 1946 he affiliated with the Bark River Culvert Company of Eau Claire and in 1955 opened McCarty Machinery Sales Company of Bayfield. He combined this with the McCarty Insurance Agency in 1957 and expended to real estate in 1965. Mr. McCarty was a member of the Realtors Association of Chequamegon Bay. He married Miss Doris M. Stark in 1920. She survives him besides a son William F., Bayfield. Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, August 16 in the Merkel Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.” ®10988
