On 1 June 1900 Joseph Grant and his wife of 8 months, Dell N., boarded with the Joseph Berard family at 517 Second Street in Ashland, Wisconsin. Joseph was a 38 year old teamster, who had immigrated to the United States in 1881 and was a permanent alien. ®11177 On 1 June 1905 Joseph was a 44 year old mill laborer who lived with his family in Sanborn, Ashland County, Wisconsin. His family was Mrs. Grant, 34, Malvinna Gagnier (daughter), 16, Fred Gagnier (son), 16, Mabel Grant, 4, Mary Grant, 3, and Joseph Grant, 2 months. ®11178 On 15 April 1910 Joseph Grant was a 54 year old teamster in a lumber mill yard who had emigrated from French Canada in 1884 and was a naturalized citizen. He lived in Bad River, Ashland County, Wisconsin with his wife of 10 years, Dell, 39, and children, Mabel R., 9, Mary H., 7, Joseph F., 4, Margaret, 3, Florence, 1 year and 10 months, Judson, 7 months and with his 66 year old cousin John Grant. ®11179 On 1 January 1920 Joe Grant, 61, was the Barn Boss for the J. S. Stearns Lumber Company and he and his family and the lumber jacks lived and worked on the Bad River Indian Reservation on the north end of Madeline Island near the Village of La Pointe, Wisconsin. Delphine was 49, Fred, 30, Ruth, 19, Hazel, 17, Fabian, 14, Margaret, 12, Florence, 11, John J., 10 and Joseph A., 61, a cousin who immigrated in 1882 lived with him. ®11185

May 20, 1929 “J. A. Grant 71, Old Settler Died Today

Joseph A. Grant, 71, passed away at his home, 217 1/2 E. Second Street, at 4:30 am today following a lingering illness of 14 months.  Mr. Grant was born in Canada and lived there for about 23 years, following which he came to Ashland, where he lived for the past 48 years.  Mr. Grant was the owner of the Wisconsin House up until his illness.  He was well known in this region. He leaves to mourn, his wife, five daughters and two sons; Mrs. Mary Ruth Larson, Mrs. Hazel Bartz, Mrs. Margaret Habrud, all of Milwaukee, Mrs. Selina McElrone of Rhinelander, Florence of Chippewa Falls, Mr. Fabian Grant of Lake Forest, IL and John Grant of Ashland, all of whom were at his death bed.  The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 10:30 at St Agnes church.  Interment will be at St. Agnes cemetery.” ®5374
