In a letter to genealogist David Parsons Holton, dated 19 April 1870, Susan wrote, "in 1822 my father moved from [illegible] Co. to Ohio, Seneca, town of Eden, then but a wilderness. In the spring of 1833 he moved to Detroit, Michigan, and remained until the fall of 1833. Then he moved to Branch [Michigan]. There I formed the acquaintance of Calvin Holton, was married May 14, 1837 at Girard."569
