On the twenty fifth day of December seventeen hundred and seventy two [25 December 1772], by us the undersigned priest was baptized Jean [MacKay] born this day son of Pr. [Protestant] Alexander MacKay[e] and Angelique Demoliers his wife. The godfather was Pr. [Protestant] John Chrishol[e]m. The godmother was Mary Mith. [Mitchell?] who have signed with us.

On August the seven seventeen hundred and seventy three [07 August 1773], by me [we], assigned cure [priest] has buried the body of Jean Makaye [MacKay] who died yesterday [died on 06 August 1773] son of Alexander Makaye [MacKay] and of Marie Angelique Demolier his wife. Have signed: Pierre Andre Spencer [?] & father & son [of Pierre]. Gr. F. Bourque, priest.

“1. Jean MacKay , was born/baptized Catholic, in the Basilique Notre-Dame de Quebec Church, on 25 December 1772 [11]; he died, 07 months old, on 06 August 1773 [12];
[Note: Some genealogists in Quebec claim that a "Joseph Jean Mackay" was also born to Alexander MacKay and Angelique Desmouliers; however, Quebec genealogist Diane Perron-Latour, on her website [13], states that this remains to be certified. Given that Joseph Jean MacKay's parents were not listed on his Marriage Record when he married Archange Martel in Baie-St-Paul, MRC Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada, it still remains to be proven by "evidentiary" proof that he is indeed their son. Joseph Jean MacKay may have opted not to list his parents when he married, possibly knowingly lacking a proper Baptismal Record which, if it had been disclosed to the Church, would have required special permission from the Archbishop to marry that would have certainly delayed the wedding. The only other indirect evidence that seems to suggest the existence of another/second Jean MacKay is the 1790 Census for New Carlisle, Quebec, Canada, which lists the household of Ranald McDonell/MacDonald as having a total of eight people: two of whom are marked as sons. Ranald McDonell/MacDonald, as far back as can be determined, had no biological sons of his own with his first wife Marguerite Bouchard or second wife Angelique Desmouliers. If Joseph Jean MacKay is the son of Alexander MacKay and Angelique Desmouliers, as the 1790 Census might suggest, Joseph Jean MacKay , was born/baptized Catholic, estimated in 1774 , possibly somewhere in the United States . He was married on 22 April 1806 to Archange Martel daughter of Louis Martel and Marguerite Nadeau . Joseph Jean MacKay died before 14 January 1832, at approximately 58 years of age, in Baie-St-Paul, MRC Charlevoix, Quebec, Canada, [14] and was buried on 14 January 1832 in the Baie-St-Paul Catholic Cemetery. There are no known living females/males today bearing the family name "MacKay" descending from the line of Joseph Jean MacKay and Archange Martel].
