Mathias Winterer, a 29 year old farmer from Baden departed from Le Havre, France, 9 May 1854, and arrived alone in New York on 19 June 1854 on the ship Invanta.1749 On the 1874 Philadelphia city directory is a cabinetmaker, Matthew who lived at 1307 Buttonwood. The only other Winterer listed in 1874 is William. 1738 On 1 June 1880 Mathew Winterer was a 53 year old cabinetmaker who lived with his family at 334 St. John Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Mathew and both his parents had been born in Baden, Germany. His family was Barbara H., 38, Amelia L., 10, Herman L. 9, Charles, 7, Franklin, 4 and Flora, born in May.1746 In 1881 Matthew is a grocer at 334 St. John Street. On 6 May 1890 Matthew Winterer applied for a passport. He had become a naturalized citizen on 28 September 1860 in Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. He had lived in Philadelphia from 1854 to 1890 and was a cabinet maker. He was 5 feet 6 ½ inches tall, with brown eyes. 1750 On 1 June 1900 Matthew Winterer, born February 1825 in Germany was a grocer and lived in a house he rented at 1256 East Columbia Avenue, Philadelphia, with his wife of 32 years, Barbara, 56, and children Herman, 30, Charles, 28 and Julia, 20. Amelia, Franklin and Flora no longer lived with them and one had died as Barbara had borne 6 children, 5 of whom were alive.1751At his death of Heart disease on 14 November 1904 he died at home at 1243 East Columbia Avenue, Philadelphia.
