On 25 April 1910 Bertram Noreng, a 30 year old creamery laborer born in Norway lived with Birgit, 26, William, 3 and Signa M., 1, in a duplex at 913 21st Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He and Birgit had emigrated in 1906, had been married 4 years, spoke English and had 2 children, both still alive. The John J. Skordalsvold family shared the duplex.1900 On 25 January 1920 the family lived on Sand Island in Lake Superior. Bertram was a 43 year old general farmer who emigrated from Norway in 1906, and became a naturalized citizen in 1917. His wife, now named Bertha, was 39 and had also emigrated from Norway in 1906 and become a naturalized citizen in 1917.They now had four children, William, 13, Signe, 11, and Helen, 9, all born in Minnesota and Norman, 2 years and 6 months, born in Wisconsin. Bertram and his family had moved to Sand Island in Bayfield County, Wisconsin between Helen’s birth in 1911 and Norman’s birth in 1917.1901 On 26 April 1930 Bertram K., 52, lived in a house he owned worth $2000 on Sand Island. He was a farmer, had emigrated in 1906 and was a naturalized citizen. He lived with Bertha, 48, William J., 23, Helen G., 19, Norman B., 12 and Harold A., 9. 1902 On 1 April 1940 Bertram Noreng is 62 years old, had an 8th grade education and lived with his wife Bertha, 59, who also had an 8th grade education. A Herman Noreng graduated from Bayfield High School in 1936. No other Norengs besides Bertram’s children attended the Bayfield Public Schools, so this may be a typo as Herman is not a part of Bertram’s family in 1910, 1920, 1930, or 1940.593
