She was from Craven County. 103 After the death of her husband, Elizabeth continued living with her daughter, Elizabeth Armistead, in Fauquier County, Virginia, and is probably buried there as there is no tombstone for her in the Stanly lot in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Bern.95 She had 14 children.95

He was the oldest child.95 He killed former Gov. Richard Dobbs Spaight in a pistol duel on 5 Sep 1802 in New Bern, North Carolina. 95 103 After a long political career, he had a stroke and was taken by his daughter, Elizabeth Stanly Armistead, to her home in Virginia, where he died.95 He was a Member of North Carolina House of Commons 103 from Craven and a Federalist leader in the state. Twelve times he was a member of the House of Commons from the borough of New Bern between 1798 and 1826 and he was speaker in 1825 and 1826. 174 In January, 1827, he had a stroke on the floor of the House of Commons. 174

After the death of his parents as a teenager, he, the oldest of 9,95 and his siblings were cared for by other family members. He and his wife moved into the Stanly Mansion on Middle Street during the early 1800’s. It may have been vacant since his parents died in 1789.
