Martin was born 29 April 1913 at 7 Commodore Location, Virginia, St. Louis County, Virginia. As a child of about 1 year of age he moved with his family to Willard, Clark County, Wisconsin. They lived and worked on a dairy farm, which he and his new wife took over from his parents when they retired in 1946. He did not farm there too long as he and Sophia divorced. He then moved to West Allis, Wisconsin and was employed at the Heil Company in Milwaukee, Steen Welding Company in New Berlin and then owned and operated his own welding business, West Side Welding, until his retirement. He moved to Wittenberg (Tigerton?) in 1977 and lived with his only child, a daughter until at least 1993. ®2859 He lived in Tigerton, Wisconsin in 1982 (near Wittenberg). ®2862 In 1994 he had Alzheimer’s Disease and was living from before 7 Dec 1994 at ElderHaus, Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where he died in 1997. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting and gardening. His date of birth was 28 April 1913. ®2859

Martin F. Matkovich, 84, formerly of Wittenberg and Willard, died Monday Nov. 3, 1997, at ElderHaus, Stevens Point. Graveside services and internment were held at noon on Nov. 7, 1997, at Holy Catholic Church Cemetery, Willard. Rev. Joe Follmar officiated.
Martin F. Matkovich was born on April 29, 1913, in St. Louis County, Minn., to Martin and Theresa (Kocyan) Matkovich. As a young boy, he moved with his parents to Willard, where he worked on the family dairy farm. He then moved to West Allis, and was employed at Heil Company, Milwaukee; Steen Welding Company, New Berlin; and then owned and operated his own welding business, West Side Welding, until his retirement. He moved to Wittenberg in 1977. He had been married to Sophie Plautz prior to marrying Gladys Trost, who preceded him in death. He then married Gwen Geiger. He enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, and gardening.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Cole, Madison; two sisters, Ann Gnader, Dallas, Texas; Marie (Leonard) Rauen, Burlington; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Mackovich and Louie Matkovich; and one sister, Emelia Bertrand. Schmidt-Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, assisted the family with arrangements. ®1242
