“Isaiah Wright, born 1748 in Virginia, died 1820 in Georgia, married Rebekah Briscoe on 14 November 1787 in Warren County, Georgia. Isaiah Wright was found murdered on 22 August 1820 at his home in Columbia County, Georgia. Family history tells that Isaiah Wright was murdered because there was a bounty on his head for his part in the Revolutionary War and somebody wanted to collect it. He may have served the Colonies in the American Revolution as a tax collector. Isaiah Wright received 287 acres of land as a bounty for his part in the Revolutionary War in 1785, Washington County, Georgia.

“Isaiah Wright’s wife, Rebekah Briscoe, came from a long line of prominent physicians from the Maryland Colony. The first of her line to come to the American Colonies was Dr. John Briscoe, who was born around 1612 in Crofton, Cumberland, England and died around 1699 in St. Marys, Maryland. His wife was Elizabeth Dubois, who was born around 1612 in France. They were married around 1637. Dr. John Briscoe arrived on the ship Ark and Dove on 22 November 1633 and record 25 March 1634. Dr. John Briscoe, Surgeon and Henry Briscoe were listed with the twenty Gentlemen with Gov. Leonard Calvert.”
