Notes for John B. BECKWITH M.D.
At age 14 he left home to be educated at the Vine Hill Academy in Halifax County, North Carolina. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1837 and began his practice of medicine in Wake County, North Carolina. In 1841 he moved to Smithfield, North Carolina where he continued practicing medicine while also being a planter. He was a surgeon in the Confederate Army. 361 He was accidentally killed by Mr. Colbert before 14 Mar 1866.
