Age 38, race not specified, in 1850.499 She is 45 and Indian in 1860. White age 55 in 1870. A Mrs. Lapointe who died 24 Jun 1894 is buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Block 7, Lot 3 with no headstone. Is it she or her daughter?

Joseph La Pointe was born in Canada about 1805. He emigrated to northern Wisconsin between 1830 and 1840 and married an Indian woman, Margarette. They had at least five children.
He can not be located on the 1830 US census.
In 1840 he lived in St. Croix County, Wisconsin Territory which included all of northern Wisconsin, including the village of La Pointe. He and his wife were 30-40 years of age and they had one daughter under 5 years of age and two daughters 5-10 years of age, all born in Wisconsin. 503
From 1850 to 1860 he and his family lived on Madeline Island at the village of LaPointe. He is a laborer with real estate valued at $1000. 499,500
In 1870 his son Henry had married, and both the Joseph La Pointe and Henry La Pointe families lived on the adjacent mainland at Bayfield, Bayfield, County, Wisconsin.373
In 1880 Joseph, 94, lives with the family of his son Henry, in Bayfield. Margaret is no longer with them.379 By the 1900 census a large number of LaPointes live in Ashland, Wisconsin or on the Bad River Indian Reservation near Ashland.

He is age 65 in 1870, and he, Margaret, 55, Margaret, 30 and William, 22 are all white. He is white, age 94 when living with his son Henry and Henry’s family in 1880. Henry and his family are Indian.
