®4857Born in 1771 in Cumberland County, North Carolina and died on 14 Oct 1835 in
Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. It seems clear from tax records and deeds of his father that he lived a very comfortable life in his youth. His father had died in Aug 1818 and on 8 Sep 1818 Robert was appointed the administrator of his estate, with securities James Armstrong and Thomas Davis. Robert signed the court order with a strong and fluent signature. Included in the inventory were 10 male and 4 female slaves.. Beside the usual household items and 1 cow and calf, were 7 book including Dykes Dictionary, a Bible, Book of Common Prayer, hymn, book of sermons and book on Self Knowledge. There was also $300.00 dollars in the bank.
Robert Raiford, Esq. made an unofficial survey of the boundaries of Fayetteville, North Carolina in the 1799. The official town boundaries were authorized on 3 Dec 1823
Robert was an Episcopalian and in January of 1817 the first public services were held. On 9 April 1817 the congregation was organized by the election of a vestry and the choosing of the name Saint John’s Church. Robert was selected as one of the Junior Wardens. In 1817, no exact date given but before 8 Jun 1817, the children of Robert and Henrietta Raiford were baptized at the Raiford home. The following children were listed in order, Philip, William, Samuel, John, Hugh and Mary Ann.
After he moved to Augusta , he was appointed the County Surveyor of Richmond County.

Her husband died in 1835, so on the 1840 and 1850 census she lived with her son in law’s family, Edward A. Eve, in Richmond County, Georgia.
In 1860 she lived with her son P. H. Raiford in Austin, Texas with F. J. Raiford, age 29, female, born Virginia (Frances Ann Jefferson, Philip Henry Raiford's second wife) and two young children.
