She was a 36 year old widow who had first married at age 30, and lived with her 71 year old widowed mother, Nettie Grimm and her 28 year old step son Harold J. Benton. Bessie’s mother had been born in Wisconsin and father in Illinois. Bessie Benton owned a home at 141 North First Street in Bayfield before 22 September 1937, at which time she rented the house to Ernest LaPointe, who rented it until 19 September 1941. He again rented the house from 26 April 1942 to June 1956 when Marjorie Benton retired to live in the home. On 23 February 1971 Harold J.
