On 1 November 1857 C. E. Peterson lived on a farm in Township 28 of Washington County, Minnesota. She lived with her husband John F. Peterson and their 8 children, Pauline, 17, Victor F., 14, John E., 13, Eric, 12, Godfried, 9, Elizabeth, 6, Hortenze, 3 and Adolph, 4 months of age. 1680 On 1 June 1860 John F. and Ericka C. [sic] Peterson had moved to Sauk County, Minnesota with their 8 children Perlina P. {sic], 19, Victor F., 17, John W. [sic], 15, Erick [sic], 14, Nelson [sic], 12, Elizabeth, 8, Christine [sic], 5 and Adolph, 3. 1681 On 16 Oct 1864 John died in the Civil War, so on 1 June 1870 widow Catharina Peterson, 49, born in Sweden, was keeping house in Afton, Minnesota. Her real estate was worth $6000 and personal estate $2416. She lived with Godfrey [sic], 21, born in Sweden, and Elizabeth, 18, Hortensia [sic], 14, Adolph, 13 and Oscar, 9, all born in Minnesota. Pauline, Victor, John, and Eric had left home. Catharina had emigrated in 1850 1494between the birth of Godfrey in 1849 and Elizabeth in 1852. Her husband John died in the Civil War on 16 October 1864, after the birth of Oscar in 1861.1679 On 1 May 1875 E. C. Peterson, 54, born in Sweden lived in Saint Paul Ward 4, Ramsey County, Minnesota. She lived with Oscar, 14, Adolph, 18, and Hortence, 20, and 2 boarders. Godfrey and Elizabeth had left home.1526

John F. Peterson, his wife and 5 oldest children emigrated from Sweden in 1850. 1494On 1 November 1857 John F. Peterson, 39, was a farmer in Township 28, Washington County, Minnesota. He, his wife C. E. Peterson, 39, and children Pauline, 17, Victor F., 14, John E., 13, Eric, 12, and Godfried, 9, had all been born in Sweden. Children born in Minnesota were Elizabeth, 6, Hortenze 3, and Adolph, 4 months of age. 1680 On 1 June 1860 John F. Peterson, 41, had moved his family to a farm in Stearns County, Minnesota with a Post Office address of Sauk Centre. His real estate was worth $800 and personal estate worth $300. He lived with Ericka C., 39, Perlina P., 19, Victor F., 17, John M., 15, Erick T., 14, Nelson [sic] 12, Elizabeth, 8, Christine [sic], 5 and Adolph, 3. 1681 A memorial in the Mound Prairie Cemetery of Washington County, Minnesota states “This stone is placed "In Memory Of" Pvt. John F. Peterson, Co G of the 7th Regiment of Minnesota Volunteer Infantry. John was a local Afton, MN, farmer who died of disease in the service of his new country during the Civil War. The monument states that his place of death was Jefferson Barracks Hospital. Jefferson Barracks is the site of a large military hospital, in St. Louis, where thousands and thousands of American soldiers died of wounds and disease. The Monument also states that he was 45 years, 6 months and 12 days of age when he died. John is buried in St. Louis, Missouri, in section 31, grave 2664 in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. John was a hard working immigrant farmer from Sweden who left behind a wife, Christine E. Peterson and eight children.”761
