A stepbrother, Willie, 19, and brother Frank, 14, and Byron, 10, lived with them, and all went to school.1638 On 1 June 1900 she had been married 9 years, had three children of whom two were still alive, and lived in Bayfield, Wisconsin. She had been born in Wisconsin, her father in Pennsylvania and her mother in New Hampshire.1639

On 1 June 1900 Adam B. Sayles, Sr. 36, and Jennie Sayles, 29, ran a hotel on First Street at Fant Avenue in Bayfield, Wisconsin. They had been married 9 years and had 3 children, 2 still alive, John R., 7 and Adam B., Jr., 4. Adam B., Sr. and his parents had been born in English Canada in February 1864 and he had emigrated in 1872. Jennie was born in March 1871 in Wisconsin, her father in Pennsylvania and mother in New Hampshire. Among the hotel guests were Luana Cartright, sister in law, 44, born in New Hampshire with her father born in Vermont and mother in New Hampshire. She was 44, born April 1856 and had been married a second time 2 years before as she had 7 children, all still alive. Louella Calkins, a 20 year old single niece born Jun 1880 in Wisconsin worked as a servant at the hotel. She had been born in Wisconsin, her father in English Canada and mother in New Hampshire. A second niece, Jenny Calkins, 13, born Dec 1886 was at school. She was born in South Dakota, her father in English Canada and mother in New Hampshire. A guest at the hotel was Roy Soper, 21, single, born Oct 1878 in Wisconsin. He worked as a teamster, his father was born in New York and mother in French Canada.1639 He married Luella Calkins.
