Mary T. McCarty, age 83, of Bayfield, Wisconsin died Thursday, 17 February 2011 at Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn, Wisconsin. She was born 5 October 1927 in Bayfield, Wisconsin, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Shuga) Torbick.
She was a graduate of Bayfield High School and attended business college in Duluth, Minnesota. Mary had worked for a law firm in Duluth, Minnesota, for Ford Motor Company in Chicago, Illinois and for General Motors in Chicago, Illinois and Green Bay, Wisconsin. On 1 June 1974 she married William F. McCarty in Bayfield, Wisconsin and has been a Bayfield resident since. Each summer over the years she would return home to help manage the raspberry crop on the Torbick family farm and Mary loved gardening, both flower and vegetable. She was a member of St. Mary's Russian Orthodox Church in Cornucopia, Wisconsin, the Bayfield American Legion Auxiliary and the Chequamegon Area Choir. Surviving are her husband, William F. McCarty of Bayfield, Wisconsin; a brother, William (Beth) Torbick of Lynchburg, Virginia; nieces and nephews, Kathie (Lester) Osborn, James Torbick, Marilyn Crouley, Niki (John) McClure, Mary Beedlow, Susan Chambers, Marita Torbick, William Torbick, Nicholas Torbick and Ellen Newport; grand nieces, grand nephews, other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Torbick and Nicholas Torbick; a nephew, Peter Torbick; and other relatives. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, 22 February 2011 at Bratley Funeral Home in Washburn, Wisconsin. Father Ted Wojcik will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 – 9 PM on Monday, 21 February 2011 at the Bratley Funeral Home. Interment will follow the funeral in the Greenwood Cemetery in Bayfield, Wisconsin on Tuesday. ®73

William McCarthy graduated from Bayfield High School in 1938. ®4872 He was an only child. William F. McCarty, Major USAF RET., age 93, of Bayfield, passed away, Friday, May 30, 2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born September 30, 1920 in Duluth, MN, the son of Leon and Doris (Stark) McCarty. Bill graduated from Bayfield High School in 1938 and continued his schooling at the University of Wisconsin, Madison before entering the US Naval Reserve and later the Army Air Force where he served for twenty years retiring in May of 1965. Bill married Mary Torbick on June 1, 1974 in Bayfield. He worked 35 years as an Excavating Contractor from 1965 to 2000. He was a member of the Bayfield Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post #49 and served on the Bayfield Cemetery Board for several years. Bill's hobbies included raising burros and later bison well into his 80's. He is survived by his cousin, Robert Stark; brother-in-law, William Torbick; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary in 2011. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the Bayfield Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. David Oliver-Holder officiating. Interment and American Legion Post #49 military services will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Bayfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. A reception will be held at the church following the services. ®11066
