Letter from Tom Reott, 5031 Oakhill Blvd., Lorain, Ohio, 44053 telephone number 16-282-1639 dated 25 August 1992; Archives of the Bayfield Heritage Association, P. O. Box 137, Bayfield, Wisconsin 54814
“Dear Mr. Peterson; The Bayfield C. O. C. Gave me your name as the local historian. I am coming to Bayfield in mid-September to vacation and to do some genealogy searches and if possible I would like to ‘pick your brain’ a bit. To give you some background so that I do not catch you off guard here’s the story: My great-grandfather was an engineer for a Bayfield area logging company around the turn of the century. According to his marriage certificate from Ashland County, Ashland City, he lived at a place called Houghton Point, which I cannot find on maps. On 27 June 1901 Andrew Reott died. Family tales relate that his death was caused by some sort of an accident at the logging camp. What I am trying to discover is exactly what did happen? Are the company records of his employment available and which company did he work for? His wife, né Elizabeth Schrader from Stetsonville gave birth to three children while there so there should be some medical records as well. If you can shed some light on these questions or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance, Tom Reott”.
Email dated 10 January 2011 from Barbara Baum to Debi Smith, Bayfield Chamber of Commerce; “My grandmother was born in Bayfield and my family is interested in coming to Bayfield. Does Bayfield have a genealogy center for people to research family members? How about old newspapers from the area? Can you tell me where to obtain birth certificates in Wisconsin? Thank you for your help.
My great-grandfather was Andrew Reott who was working with a logging company in Bayfield. We think he met Elizabeth Schroeder in Bayfield and they were married. Andrew died in a logging accident in 1901 and Elizabeth moved to Pennsylvania with the children. My grandmother talked about Bayfield a lot and how her mother missed it. My cousins and I would like to visit in the summer and see the area she loved. Barb”
On 27 June 1889 Andrew Reott married Heizzie Schrader in Ashland County, Wisconsin.
1329,951 They lived in Bayfield, Wisconsin from 1890 to 1893 where Roswell and Charlotte were born, and by November 1894 had returned to Butler County, Pennsylvania for the birth of Clayton 1894, Edward 1898 and Walter, 1900. On 1 June 1900 Andrew H. Reott, a 34 year old farmer born in Pennsylvania, lived at Clearfield Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania with his wife of 11 years, Lizzie M., 32, and their children Roswell R., 9, Lottie M., 6, Clayton H., 5 and Edward J., 2. Lizzie had 4 children, all alive at that time.
1320 On 27 June 1901 Andrew Reatt died at the Smith brownstone quarry at Houghton Point, Township of Bayview, Bayfield County, Wisconsin in an accident involving “The Scoot”, the nickname for the passenger and freight train that connected Bayfield to Ashland which probably regularly stopped at Houghton Point to load brownstone and lumber.

He went to Dorchester to attend the funeral of Andrew Reatt who was killed last week on ‘Battle-ax railroad.”
