On 1 June 1880 Joseph LaPoint, a 39 year old laborer lived in the Village of Bayfield, Wisconsin with his wife Harriet, 39, and children Mary, 16, Susan, 14, Joseph, 11, George W., 9, Alfred, 7, William, 4 and Hattie, 10 months of age. All had been born in Wisconsin except for Joseph and Harriet’s fathers who had been born in Canada.1133

Joseph disappears from the family in the 1870 census, but in 1880 lives in Bayfield with his wife and 7 children. He is a 39 year old Indian male laborer. 379 Joe LaPointe drove the stagecoaches of James Chapman and D. L. Cooper. They departed for Superior at 7 AM Monday, Wednesday and Friday, following Bayfield’s Old Military Road. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery Potter’s Field with no head stone.384
