Notes for Ivar Edward SKAVOLD
On 10 August 1887 the family lived in Clear Lake, Polk County, Wisconsin.
By 1900 the family had moved to Hayward, Sawyer County, Wisconsin.
1900 US Census clearly spells Skavold for Ivar, Marie and all seven children.
On 1 June 1900 Ivar Skavold, 43, a day laborer born in Norway in September 1856, lived in Hayward, Sawyer County, Wisconsin. He had emigrated in 1883 and lived with his wife of 15 years, Marie Skavold, 38, also born in Norway. The following children lived with them in Hayward: Edward Skavold, 12, Laura Skavold, 11, Albert Skavold, 9, Engerbar Skavold, 7, Ida Skavold, 5, Harrold Skavold, 3 and Arther Skavold, 1. An eighth child had died before this census. Also on the 1 June 1900 US Census the same Ivar Skavold was counted a second time. He was born September 1857 in Norway, had been married for 14 years but his wife and children were not with him in a boarding house of Andrew Siverson in Mason, Wisconsin. He had emigrated in 1883, was a naturalized citizen, and was working as a lumber jack.
Ivar died in 1908.
In 1924 Marie Skovald, a widow, lived at 1326 Ogden Avenue in Superior, Wisconsin with Arthur W., Edward B. Florence E., Harold L., Ida M., and Ingeborg M.
From 1938 Marie lived in Duluth, Minnesota.
Notes for Marie T. (Spouse 1)
On 1 June 1900 Ivar Skavold, 43, a day laborer born in Norway in September 1856, lived in Hayward, Sawyer County, Wisconsin. That census clearly spells Skavold for Ivar, Marie and all seven children. Marie Orfelt had emigrated from Norway in 1883, married Ivar Skavold in 1888, and had 8 children by 1900; Eldor, born 18 Sep 1899 had died before the 1 June 1900 US Census. Ivar is also recorded on the 1900 US Census in Mason, Wisconsin, about 40 miles north of Hayward, where he lived in a boarding house and probably worked as aa lumber jack.
Ivar and his family moved from Hayward to the Township of Bayfield, probably before 1908 when Ivar died and was buried in the Village of Bayfield’s Greenwood Cemetery.
On the 15 April 1910 US Census Ivar is deceased and his widow, Marie Skavold, 48, born in Norway, had emigrated in 1883 and lived in the Township of Bayfield, Wisconsin with her 8 children; Edward B. Skavold, 22, a laborer in a lumber mill, Laura J. Skavold, 20, a clerk, Albert K. Skavold, 19, a laborer in a lumber mill, Ingeborg M. Skavold, 16, a household servant, Ida A. Skavold, 15, Harold L. Skavold, 13, Arthur W. Skavold, 11, and Francis D. Skavold,4. All the children had been born in Wisconsin.
Before the 1 January 1920 Census, Marie, a 58 year old widow and 7 of her 8 Children moved to 1326 Ogden Avenue in the City of Superior, Wisconsin. Laura did not accompany them as she married Dale Vorous, Sr. in Bayfield, Wisconsin in 1911. The children moving with Marie were Edward Skavold, 32, Albert Skavold, 29, Ingborg Skavold, 26, Ida Skavold, 25, Harold Skavold, 23, Arthur Skavold, 21 and Florence Skavold, 15. They lived together on Ogden Avenue until 1929 by which time they had moved to the home of Ida and her husband, Leslie Pryor in Superior.
On 1 April 1930 Marie Skovald, 68, lived at the home of her daughter and son in law, Ida Pryor, 35 and Leslie Pryor, 32, at 2213 John Street in Superior, Wisconsin. Edward Skovald, 41, Arthur Skovald, 31, Ingebord Skovald, 36 and Florence Skovald, 26, also lived with Leslie and Ida Pryor.
Albert and Harold had left home.
On 18 Sep 1938, Marie, 76, died at the home of her daughter Ida Pryor, in Duluth, Minnesota.
“Mrs. Marie J. Skavold, age 77 was born in Norway August 10, 1861, where she lived until coming to the United States at the age of 24 years. During the past thirty years she has made Bayfield her home most of the time. Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Vorous, Wednesday afternoon, at 2:30 pm, the Reverend S. B. Pi?ney officiating. Internment was made in Greenwood Cemetery. Survivors include four daughters; Mrs. Laura J.
